Congress leader Amrith Shenoy has been sentenced to three years of simple imprisonment for wilfully disobeying the Udupi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission's order. Shenoy was found guilty under the Consumer Protection Act for failing to comply with the commission's direction to execute and register a flat in favour of complainant Santosh Pai, or pay twenty-seven point two lakh rupees with nine percent annual interest. He was remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Hiriyadka Jail after being apprehended and produced before the commission.
